Nigerian Courts Convict Individuals for Theft of Motorcycle and Generator

In Lagos State, a former soldier identified as Tajudeen Umaru appeared before the Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiring to steal a Bajaj motorcycle worth N1.3 million and impersonating a military officer. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of N500,000 pending a further hearing.

Separately, a magistrate in Abeokuta, Ogun State sentenced two men, Mohammed Tijani and Abah Yusuf, to one year in prison each for conspiring to burglarize a tyre shop and stealing a Firman generator valued at N1.1 million. Both defendants pleaded guilty and received concurrent sentences with the option of modest fines.

Both cases illustrate recent judicial actions in Nigeria against theft-related offences.
