Nigerian Courts Hand Out Unusual Sentences in Two Separate Cases

An Ibadan customary court ordered Jimoh Falola to perform 30 days of community service, including washing public toilets, after he shouted at the court and accused officials of bribery during a divorce suit.

In a separate case, a chief magistrate’s court in Akure remanded the Obaloja of Oba‑Ile, Chief Olusola Michael Aderounmu, to the Olokuta Correctional Centre on accusations of forcibly taking disputed farmland and destroying crops. He was granted bail of ₦2 million with strict surety conditions.

Both rulings reflect Nigerian judiciary actions addressing contempt of court and alleged land‑grabbing offenses.
