Nigerian courts issue death sentences in Kogi and Gombe criminal cases

High courts in Kogi and Gombe states have handed down death sentences in separate criminal cases.

In Kogi State, a High Court in Lokoja sentenced 24-year-old Dahiru Yusuf Abbah to death by hanging for the murder of his father, Dahiru Yusuf. The court found Abbah guilty of culpable homicide after prosecution established that he intentionally stabbed his father in the chest and back in October 2024. While the murder charge was upheld through circumstantial and forensic evidence, a separate charge of criminal conspiracy was dismissed due to insufficient evidence.

In Gombe State, a High Court sentenced Buhari Sule and Muktari Ali Hilami to death by hanging for armed robbery and the murder of 35-year-old Murtala Rabi’u. The defendants were convicted of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide following an attack in September 2025 in Garin Galadima village. The prosecution demonstrated that the men used weapons to rob the victim of a mobile phone and cash before killing him.
