Nigerian courts sentence men for multi‑million naira thefts

A 50‑year‑old man, Adedokun Ayinde, was arraigned in Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on charges of stealing a N40 million Toyota RAV4 and illegally possessing a locally fabricated pistol. He pleaded not guilty and was released on N5 million bail, with the case adjourned to July 21.

In a separate case, 27‑year‑old Mohammed Bello was sentenced by an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan to up to one year in prison for conspiring to break into and steal items valued at roughly N4.7 million from a cold‑room facility. He received concurrent sentences for conspiracy, unlawful breaking and theft after pleading guilty.
