Nigerian delegation studies Rwanda’s peacebuilding and governance models

A delegation of Nigerian policymakers, academics, and professionals conducted a study tour in Kigali to examine Rwanda’s models for peacebuilding, national unity, and digital governance. The visit was part of a strategic communication training programme organized by the Women Farmers Advancement Network (WOFAN) and Prospects Development Services (PDS-UK).

During engagements with the Rwanda Cooperation Initiative (RCI) and the Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement (MINUBUMWE), participants studied the mechanisms used to rebuild social cohesion following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Key pillars discussed included justice reforms, citizenship education, and community dialogue initiatives such as the Gacaca courts and the Ndi Umunyarwanda programme.

Officials noted that Rwanda’s progress is supported by inclusive leadership and political will, citing a National Unity Barometer score of 95.3 per cent in 2025. WOFAN Founder Dr. Salamatu Garba emphasized the importance of applying lessons regarding mindset change and policy reform to address similar challenges in Nigeria.
