Nigerian electricity distribution companies (DisCos) collected N603.64 billion in the second quarter of 2026, according to a report from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). This collection occurred despite a 3.40 per cent decline in average energy offtake, which fell to 3,197.03 megawatt-hours per hour from 3,309.48 megawatt-hours per hour in the first quarter.
The report highlights several efficiency metrics. Energy accounting efficiency stood at 83.24 per cent, a slight decrease from the first quarter. Billing efficiency also declined by 0.57 percentage points to 78.67 per cent. However, collection efficiency improved to 81.06 per cent, up from 78.95 per cent in Q1.
Aggregate Technical, Commercial and Collection (ATC&C) losses reached 36.23 per cent, which is 19.31 percentage points above the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) target of 16.92 per cent. This gap represents a cumulative revenue loss of N129.07 billion across all DisCos. Kaduna DisCo was noted as having the worst underperformance relative to targets. Additionally, the Federal Government provided N321.26 billion in tariff subsidies to cover approximately 50 per cent of generation costs.
