Nigerian Education Loan Fund dismisses fake upkeep allowance suspension notice

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has declared a social‑media document dated July 10, falsely attributed to its Director of Strategic Communications Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, to be a fake. The notice claimed that the Federal Government had suspended upkeep allowances for students under the 2025/2026 Student Loan Scheme. NELFUND clarified that neither the government nor the agency approved such a suspension and that tuition and upkeep disbursements are continuing as normal. The fund urged beneficiaries and the public to rely on official channels for accurate updates and warned that fabricated, AI‑generated content is being used to spread misinformation.

Separately, a graduating student from Federal University Oye Ekiti praised NELFUND, describing the programme as a key part of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda that eases financial burdens and supports higher‑education access across Nigeria.
