Nigerian entrepreneur Dr Stanley Uzochukwu rises from street vendor to diversified business leader

Dr Stanley Ifeanyi Uzochukwu was born in Calabar, Nigeria, with family roots in Nnewi South, Anambra State, and received his early education in Jos, where he studied Botany. After working as a street vendor selling perfumes and shirts, he entered the diesel and petroleum‑product supply sector and founded Stanel Oil in 2012. The company grew into the Stanel Group, which now operates in energy, retail, automobile services, agribusiness, hospitality and fast‑moving consumer goods.

A pivotal moment came when he sought mentorship from Dr Cosmas Maduka. Maduka, impressed by Uzochukwu’s discipline, transferred ₦150 million to his account without collateral, interest or a formal agreement. Uzochukwu repaid the full amount within a year, demonstrating the trust‑based partnership that has underpinned his expansion. His story is presented as an example of how humility, mentorship and disciplined use of capital can create opportunities for many others.
