Nigerian Exchange market capitalization reclaims N160 trillion

The Nigerian equities market has demonstrated strong bullish momentum, with the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) market capitalization reclaiming the N160 trillion threshold. On September 8, 2026, the All-Share Index (ASI) rose 0.29% to 247,699.78 points, contributing to a year-to-date return of 59.18%.

Banking stocks remain the primary driver of market liquidity. GTCO Plc recorded the highest transaction value at N2.24 billion, while Access Holdings Plc led in volume with 40.04 million shares traded. The financial services sector continues to dominate trading activity, accounting for a significant portion of both turnover volume and value.

Corporate capital raising is also accelerating. Six companies recently listed a combined 14.44 billion new shares, valued at approximately N37.19 billion, through private placements and rights issues. Notable listings include Coronation Insurance Plc and Sterling Financial Holdings Company Plc.

Additionally, a small group of eight mega-cap companies, including Airtel Africa, MTN Nigeria, Dangote Cement, and Seplat Energy, command over 60% of the total NGX market capitalization, with individual valuations exceeding $5 billion.
