Nigerian experts call for electoral accountability and manifesto fulfillment

Political analyst Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi has urged Nigeria to strengthen political education and electoral accountability ahead of the 2027 general elections. Drawing parallels to the United States midterm elections, Olorunfemi noted that the U.S. system allows voters to express approval or dissatisfaction with leadership and policy. He highlighted that Nigeria faces unique challenges, including poverty, vote buying, and regional politics, which undermine electoral credibility.

Separately, development expert Michael Oludare Ale has challenged Nigerian politicians to translate campaign manifestos into tangible development. Speaking at a Nigerian Association of Evaluators conference in Abuja, Ale argued that the nation must move beyond merely producing reports to building a system where evidence is used for decision-making. He emphasized that true evidence of progress is when citizens can trace public expenditure to measurable improvements in their daily lives.
