Nigerian families raise UK funds to repatriate deceased relatives

Two recent incidents have seen Nigerian relatives die while in the United Kingdom and their families start online fundraising campaigns to cover the cost of returning the bodies home. Christiana Nwosu died of cardiac arrest on 19 July 2026; her family created a GoFundMe appeal seeking roughly £10,000 for funeral director fees, specialist repatriation services, air freight and burial costs in Nigeria, raising £7,941 at the time of reporting. In a separate case, David Adediwura, a father of three, was killed in a road collision on Cory Wright Way in Wheathampstead. Colleagues launched a GoFundMe aiming for £10,000 to fund his funeral, transport, and immediate financial support for his widow and children. Both campaigns illustrate the financial challenges faced by the Nigerian diaspora when dealing with unexpected deaths abroad and the reliance on public donations to meet repatriation expenses.
