Nigerian First Ladies promote women's empowerment and agriculture

In Zamfara State, First Lady Hajiya Hurriya Dauda Lawal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting women farmers to enhance agricultural production and food security. During a 2026 World Food Day event organized by the Nigerian Association of Women in Agriculture (NAWIA), she highlighted the importance of agricultural grants and fertilizer distribution in improving productivity. NAWIA officials noted that over 3,000 women are engaged in farming across the state but face challenges such as insecurity, limited financing, and climate change.

In Bauchi State, the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) presented an Award of Excellence and Humanitarian Service to First Lady Hajiya Aisha Bala Muhammad during the organization’s 30th anniversary. The event focused on women’s political and economic empowerment. Hajiya Aisha urged women to participate actively in politics and support female candidates, while NILOWV advocates called for reserved parliamentary seats and better support for women ahead of the 2027 general elections.
