Nigerian Girls Released from Detention in Mauritius

Nigerian girls who had been detained at Mauritius airport since July 31, 2026 were released and are being flown back to Nairobi. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) confirmed their freedom and said they are on their way to Kenya.

NiDCOM Chairman and CEO Abike Dabiri‑Erewa said the commission is working with the Nigerian embassy to pursue accountability with Mauritian authorities and to prevent similar incidents. The commission reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigerians abroad, citing the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. Identities of the girls and details of the detention were not disclosed.
