Nigerian governors call for unity and security cooperation
Nigerian governors in Akwa Ibom and Edo states have issued calls for peace and unity during recent commemorative events.
In Akwa Ibom, Governor Umo Eno addressed the 39th anniversary of the state's creation, warning socio-cultural groups against using their platforms to promote ethnic tension and tribalism. He vowed to disband any groups that promote division and urged citizens to prioritize state unity over political or religious differences. Eno also stated he has not reported any individuals to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission since taking office.
In Edo State, Governor Monday Okpebholo called on residents to support security agencies in the fight against kidnapping and cultism. Speaking at an International Day of Peace program organized by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the governor noted that the administration has established a special court to try suspected kidnappers and cultists. He emphasized that government efforts to combat criminality require active cooperation from citizens.
