Nigerian governorship candidates outline 2027 platforms
Candidates for the 2027 governorship elections in Nigeria's Oyo and Kwara states have outlined their platforms and strategies.
In Oyo State, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Senator Sharafadeen Alli has pledged to grant autonomy to local government areas and local council development areas starting May 29, 2027, if elected. This move is intended to empower grassroots governance. During the inauguration of the APC's PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in the state, businessman Tompolo donated 32 campaign vehicles to support the party's mobilization efforts.
In Kwara State, African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate Zakari Mohammed has vowed to end political godfatherism. Mohammed, a former lawmaker, criticized the APC and PDP candidates for allegedly being backed by established political figures. He proposed running an independent government guided by fairness and equity, and has challenged other contenders to a public debate to discuss their plans for addressing state challenges, specifically insecurity.
