Nigerian Guild of Editors to host 2026 conference in Enugu
The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has announced the 2026 All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC), scheduled for September 24 and 25 at the International Conference Centre in Enugu. The event is expected to host over 500 editors and media stakeholders.
Centered on the theme “The Ballot, the Media and the Task of Keeping Democracy Alive,” the conference will specifically address the threat of AI-driven disinformation ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections. A key sub-theme, “When Lies Look Real: Detecting and Debunking AI Disinformation Before, During and After Election,” aims to explore how the media can safeguard democratic values and public trust.
The conference will be chaired by the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe. Featured speakers include former Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, who will deliver the keynote address, as well as Enugu State Governor Dr. Peter Mbah and Prof. Auwal Yadudu of Bayero University. Other sessions will cover topics such as electoral justice, reporting terrorism, and election petitions in the digital age.
