Nigeria House Committee clears Gbajabiamila in PFIPC forgery probe
A House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee has released a preliminary report regarding the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), concluding that the organization was never lawfully established. The investigation found that the PFIPC lacked any valid Act of the National Assembly, Presidential Executive Order, or other legal instrument to authorize its existence.
The committee cleared Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, of any involvement in the agency's creation or operations. Instead, the report stated that Gbajabiamila acted proactively by petitioning security agencies, including the DSS and EFCC, after receiving alerts about suspicious activities related to the council.
Investigators uncovered an elaborate scheme involving forged presidential correspondence and a fabricated appointment letter for Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi as Director-General. The probe revealed that Adeyemi allegedly controlled 58 bank accounts and was linked to 12 additional fictitious agencies, including the FCT Investment Promotion Agency.
Prince Adeyemi, who is currently in police custody facing charges of forgery and fraud, has had a Federal High Court order issued directing that he be granted access to his legal counsel.
