Nigerian Independent System Operator pushes for grid stability and honors Kano DisCo

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) is calling for increased operational discipline and long-term planning to ensure national grid stability. During a workshop at the Jebba Hydro Power Plant, NISO Managing Director Abdu Bello Mohammed highlighted that the power network faces significant hurdles, including frequency excursions, voltage-security issues, and generation constraints.

Mohammed emphasized that maintaining a reliable transmission architecture is essential for economic growth. He noted that as Nigeria expands its energy footprint through new generation and transmission infrastructure, stakeholders must commit to technical standards and seamless coordination to manage the evolving electricity value chain.

In a separate development within the sector, NISO commended the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (Kano DisCo) for achieving a 100% market remittance rate. This milestone is considered a significant achievement given the industry's common challenges with liquidity shortfalls, energy theft, and infrastructure deficits. By meeting its full financial obligations to market participants, Kano DisCo has been cited as a model for operational discipline and financial transparency in the Nigerian electricity market.
