Nigerian lawyer Stella Justice Nnennaya refutes burial myths
Attorney Stella Justice Nnennaya used a widely shared Facebook post to clarify that no Nigerian law, Bar Association rule or legal tradition mandates a specific way of burying lawyers. She disproved the claims that lawyers are buried face‑down, in their wigs and gowns, or alongside law books, stating that such practices have no legal basis.
Justice explained that burial arrangements in Nigeria are decided by the wishes of the deceased, family preferences, religious beliefs and cultural customs, just as for any other person. She also refuted the stereotype that lawyers are trained to lie, emphasizing that the profession is built on presenting facts, interpreting the law and defending clients' rights.
