Nigerian leaders advocate for inclusive education and girl-child empowerment

Former Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has renewed his advocacy for girl-child education and economic empowerment. Marking the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, Okowa emphasized the importance of eliminating child marriage and social discrimination to secure national development. He highlighted his administration's Girls Entrepreneurship and Skills Training Programme (GEST), which provided resources to young women in Delta State to foster economic independence.

In Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara restated his commitment to improving access to quality, inclusive education, specifically targeting out-of-school children. Speaking at an event in Port Harcourt, Fubara urged stakeholders to address barriers such as economic hardship and social background. The Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Aisha Garba, also addressed the rising number of out-of-school children, calling for a collaborative approach to solve the challenge.
