Nigerian Juju star St. Janet dies after brief illness

Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as St. Janet or Saint Janet, was a veteran Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician. She died on Saturday, August 1, 2026, after a brief illness. The death was announced on Sunday by publisher and socialite Otunba Femi Davies in a Facebook post, quoting: “St Janet (Iyun Janet Ajilore), a popular Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician known for her vibrant live performances, energetic stage presence and socially unfiltered party tracks, is dead. She died after a brief illness on Saturday.” Other musicians, including Alayo Melody Singer (Akinola Michael), also confirmed the news on social media. St. Janet was celebrated for her energetic stage presence, satirical and explicit lyrics, and the nickname “Mama Yabis.” Her passing prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans, fellow artists, and industry figures, though funeral details have not yet been released.
