Nigerian Navy inducts SSV KALI 3 to protect energy assets
The Nigerian Navy has inducted the Security Support Vessel (SSV) KALI 3 at Asemoku Jetty in Delta State to enhance maritime security and protect critical energy infrastructure. The induction ceremony was led by the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.
KALI 3 is the first of ten vessels to be provided to the Navy by Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) under a Memorandum of Agreement. This public-private partnership aims to convert private sector investment into operational maritime capabilities. The vessel was designed and constructed in Nigeria at the Okpai HM Shipyard in Delta State, highlighting the country's growing indigenous shipbuilding capacity.
The vessel is equipped for coastal and offshore security, anti-piracy operations, maritime law enforcement, interdiction, and escort duties within Nigeria’s shallow-water environments. Vice Admiral Abbas noted that protecting the maritime environment and energy assets is vital for sustaining economic activity, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
