Nigerian Navy intercepts 71kg of suspected cannabis on River Niger

Operatives of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Lugard intercepted a wooden boat carrying 71 kilograms of suspected cannabis along the River Niger in Kogi State. The interception occurred on September 8 at approximately 4:30 p.m. following actionable intelligence.

Three suspects were arrested during the operation. The naval patrol team escorted the vessel to the NNS Lugard jetty, where the suspects and the seized drugs were formally handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Lokoja.

Commander Christian Ottah, Acting Executive Officer of NNS Lugard, emphasized that the operation highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration and timely intelligence in combating maritime crime and narcotics trafficking. The NDLEA has launched an investigation to determine the origin of the drugs and identify the suppliers.
