Nigerian police arrest multiple suspects in drug crackdowns

Police commands in Osun and Akwa Ibom states have conducted separate operations resulting in the arrest of multiple suspects and the seizure of substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

In Osun State, the Police Command arrested three men—Awo Omotayo, Abayomi Suleiman, and Oluwatayo Samuel—after discovering five bags of suspected Indian hemp concealed in an abandoned Toyota Sienna Space Bus along the Moro–Ife Road. During interrogation, Omotayo allegedly claimed he was hired by an individual known as “Baba Ibo” to transport the consignment to Ogbomoso in Oyo State.

In Akwa Ibom, police operatives conducted intelligence-led raids in Uyo and Essien Udim Local Government Areas. These operations led to the arrest of four suspects, including Inemesit Ekpeyong, Mandu John, Ubong John, and Ekemine John. Large quantities of suspected Indian hemp were recovered during the raids. Authorities have launched investigations to identify supply sources and wider criminal networks.
