Nigerian police commands issue warnings on misconduct and security measures

Police leadership in Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states have issued directives aimed at improving professional conduct and enhancing public safety.

In Akwa Ibom, Commissioner of Police Baba Mohammed Azare held a strategic security meeting with senior officers to address crime prevention and intelligence gathering. Azare warned personnel against the abuse of authority, extortion, negligence, and dereliction of duty, emphasizing that all official actions must respect the fundamental rights of citizens and adhere to established laws.

In Bayelsa, Commissioner of Police Ajao Adewale has called on tricycle operators to display approved Ministry of Transport identification numbers. This measure is intended to help distinguish legitimate riders from criminals using vehicles to commit crimes. Adewale also cautioned police officers against unprofessional conduct, including unlawful detention and arbitrary arrests, while urging transport associations to sensitize members on traffic regulations and responsible conduct.
