Nigerian police implement security measures for upcoming by-elections

Police commands in Gombe and Bauchi states have announced significant security measures and peace agreements ahead of upcoming by-elections scheduled for Saturday.

In Gombe State, political parties signed a peace accord at the police command headquarters to ensure the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency by-election is conducted without violence. Commissioner of Police Umar Chuso urged candidates to reject thuggery and warned against using social media to spread misinformation or incite tension. He emphasized that political competition should remain peaceful and professional.

In Bauchi State, Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered a massive deployment of personnel to secure the Disina and Sakwa state constituency by-elections. Security protocols include restricting vehicular movement and commercial activities from 6am to 6pm on election day, except for essential services and INEC officials. Additionally, security aides for VIPs are prohibited from accompanying principals to polling units, and the use of sirens or covered number plates is banned during the period.
