Nigerian Police Officers Accused of Watching Newborn Mother’s Video
A Nigerian man reported that police stopped him at a checkpoint while he was rushing to a bank after his wife had given birth. He said officers seized his phone, watched intimate videos of his wife in labour, and ignored his pleas to stop.
He alleged the officers searched his bank account, demanded ₦40 million to help complete a construction project, and only released him after he declined. The man's video testimony was posted on X, prompting widespread outrage online and calls for an investigation into police misconduct.
"My wife had just given birth, so I went to the market to buy food…" the man said in the video.
