President Bola Tinubu has named Dr Wasiu Olanrewaju‑Smart as his Special Adviser on National Assembly Matters for the House of Representatives, with the appointment taking immediate effect. He replaces Hon. Ibrahim Olanrewaju, who resigned to contest an elective post in his home state.

The 40‑year‑old scholar holds a PhD in Educational Management from Lead City University and a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University, where he was an Edward Mason Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School. He is also a LEAPS Fellow at MIT, holds a professional diploma in Public Relations from the London School of Public Relations, and served as a Policy Fellow at Quantum Alliance AI in the United States focusing on AI and civic technology. His legislative career includes serving as Research and Media Assistant to the Minority and Majority Leaders of the House (7th‑8th Assemblies), then as Special Adviser, Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House (9th‑10th Assemblies). From October 2023 he was Senior Special Assistant on Intergovernmental Affairs before this promotion. The Presidency expressed confidence that he will strengthen coordination between the Presidency, ministries, departments and agencies and the House of Representatives.
