Nigerian Railway Corporation expands Lagos‑Ibadan fleet and graduates new pilots

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) announced plans to double the train fleet operating on the Lagos‑Ibadan standard‑gauge line, moving from a single daily return trip to two. Managing Director Fidet Okhiria said the corporation is coordinating with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to schedule the additional services and ultimately aims to run eight rail lines on the corridor, improving weekend frequencies and station access.

In a separate ceremony, NRC Managing Director Dr Kayode Opeifa presented 31 newly graduated locomotive pilots, including two women, who completed a year of intensive theoretical and practical training at the corporation’s schools in Lagos, Zaria and Kaduna. The graduates are cited as essential to the ongoing expansion and safety improvements of Nigeria’s rail network.
