Nigerian Rapper Falz Quits Law Practice to Focus on Music
Folarin Falana, known professionally as Falz, is a Nigerian rapper, actor and trained lawyer. He earned a law degree from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom, completed the Nigerian Law School in Abuja and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2012. After qualifying, he practiced litigation, appeared in court and worked alongside his father, prominent human‑rights lawyer Femi Falana.
As his music career gained popularity, Falz found it increasingly difficult to balance both professions. He recounted a court appearance where the judge recognized him from his entertainment work, noting that his fame could distract proceedings and cause clients to doubt his availability. Citing the potential for “chaos” in the courtroom and concerns that clients might prefer a less‑public lawyer, he decided to cease active legal practice and devote himself fully to music.
