Nigerian religious leaders warn of political risks ahead of 2027 election

Religious leaders in Nigeria are issuing warnings regarding the country's political landscape and the upcoming 2027 presidential election. Primate Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church cautioned President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) against overconfidence. Ayodele stated that relying on financial influence and political machinery may fail to secure victory if the government does not address national hardship and insecurity.

Separately, Marian Talabi, a spiritual leader of the Cherubim and Seraphim church, urged Christians to increase their participation in politics. She argued that avoiding governance leaves decision-making to those with potentially conflicting values, which can result in bad governance for believers. Talabi emphasized the need for genuine Christian representation at all levels of government and encouraged the youth to prepare for leadership roles.
