Nigerian SDP candidate Adewole Adebayo urges military spending probe and says presidency needs stamina

Presidential hopeful Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) argued that Nigeria’s presidency should not be a role for the elderly, comparing the job to playing for the Super Eagles and saying it requires physical and mental stamina. He warned former Vice‑President Atiku Abubakar against viewing the presidency as his only avenue for service and cited former President Muhammadu Buhari’s own remarks about preferring a younger age for the office.

Adebayo also criticised the Senate for refusing to probe the country’s defence budget, which he said exceeds N5.4 trillion yet has not improved security. He called for a parliamentary investigation to determine whether the funds reach the armed forces, citing recent high‑profile kidnappings and the death of former Defence Information Director General Rabe Abubakar as evidence of ongoing insecurity.
