Nigerian security agencies intercept illegal diesel and narcotics
Security agencies in Nigeria have conducted separate operations to intercept illegally sourced petroleum products and illicit substances.
In Ondo State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) intercepted three trucks carrying over 100,000 litres of illegally refined diesel (Automated Gas Oil). Six individuals were arrested during the operation, which included the seizure of 45,000 litres of diesel being transported from Delta State and 34 drums of adulterated diesel. The NSCDC stated that investigations are ongoing and suspects will face prosecution under the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
In Lagos State, the Nigerian Navy intercepted 500 litres of suspected illegal diesel and substances believed to be cannabis sativa in the Ibeju-Lekki area. While the suspects fled the scene during the operation at the Folu Community, the recovered products and narcotics were secured for further investigation. The Navy indicated these actions are part of a broader campaign to combat economic sabotage and maritime criminal activities.
