Nigerian security delegation visits Institute of Regional Studies
A high-level delegation from Nigeria’s National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) visited the Institute of Regional Studies (IRS) in Islamabad to discuss shared security and regional challenges. The interaction focused on the socioeconomic and sociocultural similarities between Pakistan and Nigeria, as well as common security concerns.
Discussions covered terrorist narratives, the socioeconomic drivers of extremism, and the relationship between traditional and non-traditional security. The delegation and IRS researchers also addressed the impacts of climate change in South Asia and Africa. Ambassador Jauhar Saleem, President of the IRS, emphasized the potential for institutional collaboration between NISS and IRS to allow officials and researchers to learn from each other’s experiences.
The visiting group included senior faculty from NISS and officials from various Nigerian government bodies, including the Department of State Services, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, the Nigerian Ports Authority, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, and the Taraba State Government.
