Nigerian security forces seize ESN arms cache in Enugu, thwart attacks

The Department of State Services, backed by troops from the Nigerian Army’s 82 Division, foiled a plan by the outlawed Eastern Security Network (ESN) to assault security checkpoints and kidnap women, students and children across the Southeast. Intelligence led to the arrest of two ESN field commanders in Enugu and a raid on an ESN armoury in the Agbani area, where operatives recovered a rocket launcher, RPG warheads, three RPG chargers, eleven AK‑47 rifles, over 610 rounds of 7.62 × 39 mm ammunition and NYSC uniforms.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah visited the DSS headquarters to inspect the seized weapons, praising the coordinated effort of the DSS, the army and the police. He urged nationwide support for President Bola Tinubu’s security agenda and highlighted that the cache, had it been used, could have enabled large‑scale terror in the region.
