Nigerian Senate orders probe into killings of 113 people in Benue

The Nigerian Senate has called for an urgent investigation by the Inspector-General of Police and service chiefs into the killing of 113 people across the Benue North-East Senatorial District. The victims include six Mobile Police officers, following a series of attacks in the Ukum, Katsina-Ala, and Logo Local Government Areas.

Senator Emmanuel Memga Udende sponsored the motion, detailing specific incidents in the Sai, Bom, Aboajio, and Ayilamo communities. The violence has resulted in significant property destruction and the displacement of residents, severely disrupting local farming activities.

The Senate has directed security agencies to strengthen deployments, establish effective early-warning systems, and implement rapid-response mechanisms. Additionally, the Senate called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Benue State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to those displaced by the attacks.
