Nigerian states Abia and Bayelsa launch public consultations for 2027 budgets

The governments of Abia and Bayelsa states in Nigeria have launched public consultation processes to prepare their respective 2027 annual budgets.

In Abia State, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning Kingsley Anosike announced that the administration is seeking input from citizens and stakeholders to ensure the final fiscal plan reflects public needs. This engagement is noted as particularly significant because the 2027 budget will be the final cycle for the current administration. Previous public feedback in Abia led to practical changes, such as redesigning electric buses to include ramps for persons with disabilities.

In Bayelsa State, Governor Douye Diri reaffirmed a commitment to accountable governance through a bottom-up approach to budget preparation. Represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe, the administration held an interactive session to allow citizens to identify community needs and evaluate the effectiveness of current projects. The state aims to make the resulting budget public to ensure transparency in how public funds are utilized.
