Nigerian states advance healthcare reforms and worker welfare

State governments in Nigeria are implementing various initiatives to strengthen healthcare delivery and worker welfare.

In Benue State, Governor Samuel Ortom inaugurated a permanent office complex for the State Primary Health Care Board (SPHCB). Ortom emphasized that health is a top priority for his administration, aiming for Universal Health Coverage through synergy between the SPHCB and the Benue State Health Insurance Agency. Plans are underway to disburse funds to eligible primary health care facilities and enroll vulnerable citizens for easier access to services.

In Sokoto State, Governor Ahmed Aliyu reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving the working conditions of medical personnel. The state recently recruited three thousand workers, including health professionals, and is planning to recruit an additional two thousand four hundred community health workers. To bolster rural healthcare, the government has introduced a two-year compulsory rural posting policy and has renovated various specialist, general, and primary healthcare centers across the state.
