Nigerian states approve civil servant promotion benefits

Nigerian state governments in Borno and Zamfara have taken steps to address the financial entitlements of civil servants.

In Borno State, Governor Babagana Zulum approved the immediate implementation of promotional benefits and leave grants for civil servants. This decision followed meetings with labor leaders from the Nigerian Labour Congress, the Trade Union Congress, and the National Union of Local Government Employees. The governor also directed a task force to review the implementation of new salary scales and gratuity schemes for local government staff.

In Zamfara State, the government has initiated processes to pay promotion benefits that have been outstanding for up to 30 years. The Head of Service, Malam Yakubu Sani Haidara, inaugurated a committee to ensure eligible workers receive entitlements in accordance with Public Service Rules. The initiative aims to improve worker morale and productivity by addressing long-standing welfare issues under Governor Dauda Lawal.
