Nigerian states expand healthcare infrastructure and monitoring
Lagos State has intensified monitoring of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Ibeju-Lekki, Eti-Osa, and Epe through its Quality Improvement Programme (QIP). A recent five-day assessment evaluated service delivery standards across medical, nursing, pharmaceutical, laboratory, and environmental health services to identify operational gaps and ensure compliance with patient-centered care standards.
Dr. Monsurat Adeleke, Permanent Secretary of Health District III, reported that facilities were adequately stocked with vaccines, essential medicines, and family planning commodities. The monitoring exercise also confirmed the presence of functional Ward Health Committees and Quality Assurance Teams to promote community participation and accountability.
In Bayelsa State, the government has upgraded 62 primary and secondary health facilities over the last two years. The initiative included the rehabilitation and equipping of 49 primary and 13 secondary facilities, reaching both the Yenagoa metropolis and remote communities. Improvements also focused on human capital, including the provision of residential accommodation for health workers, ambulance services, and enhanced welfare packages to boost productivity.
