Nigerian states implement measures to resolve ASUU industrial disputes
Various Nigerian state governments are taking steps to address grievances raised by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve industrial actions and improve tertiary education.
In Ondo State, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved the implementation of the 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement for state-owned institutions, with effects expected from August 2026. This includes a 60 percent increase in monthly subventions to address staff welfare. Consequently, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) suspended planned protests in the state.
In Kaduna State, the ASUU chapter at Kaduna State University (KASU) commended the state government for addressing several longstanding issues. The union noted that three out of ten previously presented issues, including matters related to salaries, allowances, and a review of school fees, have been addressed.
Meanwhile, in Nasarawa State, the government has assured students at Nasarawa State University, Keffi, that Governor Abdullahi Sule is working to resolve the ongoing ASUU strike to allow academic activities to resume.
