Nigerian states launch empowerment schemes for entrepreneurs

Kwara and Delta states in Nigeria have launched significant financial empowerment programmes aimed at supporting small businesses and fostering economic independence.

In Kwara State, the Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP) has distributed N89.2 million in grants to twelve young entrepreneurs. These funds, approved by the state governor, are intended to support viable business ideas, create employment, and reduce dependence on government jobs. The agency plans to monitor the impact of these grants over the next six to twelve months.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Government has commenced a N5 billion grassroots empowerment programme. The initiative targets 100,000 small-scale business owners and beneficiaries across 500 wards. Under this scheme, each recipient is expected to receive N50,000, with distribution managed through local government councillors to ensure direct economic assistance reaches the community level.
