Nigerian states launch major recruitment in health and education sectors

State governments in Nigeria are implementing large-scale recruitment drives to address critical personnel shortages in essential sectors.

In Kano State, Governor Abba Yusuf has overseen the recruitment of over 2,000 healthcare professionals into the state civil service. This initiative follows a government assessment to identify manpower gaps caused by growing community demands and the migration of medical professionals abroad. The Governor instructed the new recruits to prioritize patient care and maintain professional ethics to improve healthcare accessibility.

In Jigawa State, Governor Umar Namadi has approved the recruitment of 1,920 personnel to bolster the education sector. This includes 1,100 graduates being converted to permanent and pensionable positions and 820 new hires under the Jigawa Teachers Employment and Capacity Enhancement Programme (J-TEACH). The move aims to improve teacher-student ratios in senior secondary schools, particularly in underserved rural areas, and ensure that investments in school infrastructure are supported by qualified staff.
