Nigerian states prioritize youth sports and talent discovery

State governments in Nigeria are reinforcing their commitment to youth engagement and sports development through various initiatives.

In Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda hosted officials from the Katsina Football Academy and Moonluck Football Academy following their victory at the IberCup Estoril 2026 in Lisbon, Portugal. The partnership allowed seven players from the academy to compete internationally. The initiative included a scouting program involving players from across the state's 34 Local Government Areas to identify emerging talent.

Similarly, the Kogi State Government has affirmed its support for sports as a platform for unity and talent discovery. During the grand finale of the 2026 Provost’s Cup at the Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aridaojo Anyebe, pledged sustained government support for sporting activities and youth-focused initiatives.
