Nigerian states seek more Hajj slots for 2027 pilgrimage

Several Nigerian states are requesting additional Hajj slots from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) to accommodate growing demand for the 2027 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

In Lagos, Commissioner for Home Affairs Ibrahim Layode described the current allocation of 1,224 slots as grossly inadequate, stating the state requires at least 2,500 to meet demand. Layode also raised concerns regarding the quality of service providers during previous years, citing substandard facilities at Arafat and inadequate aircraft accommodations. He has requested approval for states to establish clinic spaces within hotels to assist medical teams.

Similarly, the Jigawa State Pilgrims Welfare Board has formally requested more seats following the completion of its registration process. Director General Alhaji Ahmed Umar Labbo noted that the board has already captured eligible pilgrims on the e-registration platform and is seeking to accommodate the overwhelming interest in the state.
