Nigerian Exchange rebounds, adding N71 bn market value

The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) closed higher on Wednesday, with the All‑Share Index gaining 0.04% to 244,912.24 points and market capitalisation rising by roughly N71 billion to about N158.09 trillion. The uplift was led by strong performances in Nestlé Nigeria Plc and major banking stocks such as First HoldCo and FCMB Group, while Linkage Assurance posted the day’s biggest price increase at 9.94%.

In the ETF segment, nine of the twelve NGX‑listed exchange‑traded funds posted gains in July 2026, highlighted by Greenwich Alpha ETF’s 30.41% monthly rise. However, market breadth remained negative, with more decliners than advancers, and trading volume fell 47% to 824 million shares.

A later session saw the market reverse, with a N599 billion drop in market capitalisation and the All‑Share Index slipping 0.38% after profit‑taking in Nestlé Nigeria and 39 other stocks.
