Nigeria's Ambassador presents $14bn UN budget to President Tinubu

Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, has formally presented the proposed 2027 United Nations Appropriations Bill to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja. The seven-volume document outlines a total proposed budget of approximately $14 billion, which includes roughly $3.4 billion for the UN’s regular operations and $8.5 billion for peacekeeping missions.

The presentation marks a historic milestone, as it is the first time in 66 years that a Nigerian has chaired the UN General Assembly 5th Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Matters and presented the budget to a Nigerian President. Ambassador Ibrahim noted that the document remains a proposal subject to detailed negotiations and final approval by UN member states.

In a separate engagement with the City Boy Movement, President Tinubu addressed economic reforms and his 2027 reelection prospects. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to the removal of the petrol subsidy, comparing any attempt to restore it to asking Moses to return to Egypt. He also discussed the administration's strategy to balance governance with political campaigning ahead of the 2027 elections.
