Nigerian Swimmer Abduljabar Adama Receives $300 Reward After Historic Commonwealth Games Final

Sports philanthropist Joseph Odobeatu, a board member of the Nigeria Aquatics Federation, presented a $300 cash reward to 17‑year‑old Abduljabar Adama after the swimmer became the first Nigerian ever to qualify for a final at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Adama reached the final of the men’s 50‑metre butterfly, ultimately finishing fourth, a breakthrough for Nigeria’s aquatic sport.

Odobeatu also praised teammates Clinton Opute, Collins Ebinga and Dorcas Oka, and commended the National Sports Commission’s support under Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director‑General Bukola Olopade, emphasizing the need for continued investment in grassroots talent.
