Nigerian troops deployed to secure Benin presidential inauguration, VP Shettima attends

The Nigerian Army stationed troops at strategic points across Cotonou, Benin, to safeguard the inauguration of President‑elect Romuald Wadagni, set for 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Security forces were positioned around major routes, government facilities, the presidential palace and other vulnerable locations as part of a coordinated regional security effort.

Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Cotonou to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the ceremony. He attended the swearing‑in alongside heads of state, diplomats and other African leaders, underscoring the close bilateral ties and security cooperation between Nigeria and Benin within the ECOWAS framework.
