Nigerian universities penalize students for examination misconduct

Two Nigerian academic institutions have taken disciplinary action against students following investigations into examination misconduct.

Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin has expelled 42 students. The decision, confirmed by Principal Assistant Registrar Ibrahim Esin, follows investigations by the institution’s Examination Malpractice Committee. The expelled students represent various departments, including Mechatronics Engineering, Journalism and Media Studies, and Banking and Finance. The institution stated that the students violated the Matriculation Oath and must return all school property.

Separately, the University of Calabar Senate has suspended nine students for the 2026/2027 academic session. The suspension, communicated by Registrar Dr. Chukwuka Icha, follows recommendations from the university's Examination Misconduct Committee. The affected students are enrolled in departments ranging from Theatre and Media Studies to Pharmacology and Sociology.
